Bordering Carmel to the east is the town of Fishers. Located at the intersection of Interstate 69 and 116th Street, and only two minutes north of the Indianapolis/Marion County border, Fishers has easy access to I-465, Indiana SR 37 and I-69, which makes it especially popular for commuters.
Like Carmel, Fishers has earned many accolades as a great place to live. In 2010, CNN Money magazine awarded Fishers the #8 spot on it's annual list of Best Places to Live! Fishers residents benefit from excellent schools, affordable housing, and close proximity to Downtown Indianapolis, Geist Reservoir, and Verizon Wireless Music Center.
Fishers History
The town of Fishers was originally called Fishers Station or Fishers Switch because the small town was once a major site of one of the railroad stops in Central Indiana. The town's railroad history is reflected in the architecture of downtown Fishers real estate. Even though many of these buildings are recent additions, their architectural style resembles that of an early railroad community.
